Business Process Management
Business Process Management is an outstanding tool to achieve higher levels of process maturity and work product quality. Modus21 is using Business Process Management principles to control, enforce, and audit the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The benefits and principles of this approach will be discussed and practical application examples will be presented. These will include a case study of Sikorsky Aircraft used Business Process Management Software (BPMS) to automate a support process, and examples of how BPMS could be used to support any organization's CMMI initiatives, both pre and post certification. The meeting will start at 6:00 PM and the format

Monthly Meeting
The most often asked question concerning process improvement using the CMMI is “Where do we start?” The response most given is “Look at OPF!” and “If you are going to maturity level 3 then also look at OPD.” Organizational Process Focus and Organizational Process Definition give guidance on setting up the infrastructure that organizations need to address process improvement using CMMI as the reference model. The 26 July SC SPIN meeting will be a round table discussion of these two process areas. If you are getting ready to start your improvement effort, this is a meeting to attend as it will help you save time and dollars down the road.
Monthly Meeting
Jeff Schwalb has been employed by Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) at China Lake, California since 1984 where he is now the national Team Software Process (TSP) lead. He spent the first ten years of his career developing software intensive real-time embedded range instrumentation systems. He got involved with process improvement in 1993, became a Personal Software Process instructor in 1995, then an observed TSP launch coach in 2001. He has since taught each of the TSP/PSP courses many times and has been involved in the TSP launch and re-launch of several projects across NAVAIR. He is now working with the SEI to extend TSP practices into other domains such as systems engineering and software acquisition. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from California State University Chico in 1986. Jeff has been awarded the 2007 SEI Member Representative Award which is based on the software community’s recognition of Jeff as an accomplished pioneer of principles and practices in software and systems engineering.

Roundtable Discussion About Project Planning
As you may recall, we discussed the Requirements Management process area in a previous meeting, which evoked some excellent ideas about how to improve our abilities to gather customer's requirements. This coming discussion involving the Project Planning and Project Monitoring and Control process areas is equally promising.
Some other news is that the SC SPIN web site is now operational at www.scspin.net web site. (Thank You, Dr. Bradham of SCRA!) The SPIN meeting format has the first 1/2 hour for networking followed by the speaker’s presentation beginning around 6:30.
